Modeling noise in gene expression

ONTARE. REVISTA DE INVESTIGACIÓN DE LA FACULTAD DE INGENIERÍA This study deals with the modeling of the basic steps of gene expression in biological systems. It approaches the problem of determining the steady-state variance of the messenger RNA gene products, through a discrete-space; continuous-time stochastic modeling based on Stochastic Petri Nets. The model is solved at steady-state using both the analytical and simulation approaches. The results obtained for the variance of gene products indicate that the relative speed in the different gene expression processes may determine very noisy conditions, which are likely to affect many cellular phenomena.
