El papel de Notch, Hh y Wnt en el desarrollo del cáncer de pulmón.

Hedgehog (Hh), Notch and Wingless-Int (Wnt) are signalling pathways highly conserved among species, essential for embryonic development and progenitor cell fates. All three of these pathways participate in lung development as well as airway epithelial repair process. But interestingly aberrant activation of these pathways is observed in a large variety of cancers, suggesting its potential contribution in the evolution and maintenance of a malignant phenotype. New evidence implicates malignant transformation of the neuroendocrine lineage with aberrant Hedgehog pathway activation, whereas Notch and Wnt signalling may be important in other airway cell types. Bearing in mind the importance of the new theory of tumor formation based on stem-cell... Ver más
