Para comprender los fenómenos económicos, la investigación económica tradicional se ha fundamentado, primordialmente, en análisis estadísticos y modelos matemáticos y econométricos. En particular, en el campo de la investigación se consolidan como herramientas avanzadas para desarrollar propuestas de investigación, procesar grandes cantidades de datos, identificar patrones complejos y realizar predicciones más precisas. Estas capacidades han permitido a los economistas abordar los problemas económicos desde su vasta complejidad, a fin de formular resultados más objetivos y propuestas más precisas para su comprensión y abordaje eficiente, equitativo y eficaz.
