El tiempo lineal burgués ha constituido la forma hegemónica de pensar históricamente a Chile desde el siglo XIX. Esta forma de pensar la historia, que las elites han naturalizado, sólo pudo instalarse a partir de las empresas económicas y militares del siglo XIX, especialmente tras las guerras del salitre, que incluyen las conquistas del territorio minero, el derrocamiento del presidente Balmaceda y las represiones a los trabajadores salitreros a principios del siglo XX.
