Atenuar la accidentalidad en nuestras ciudades latinoamericanas constituye un factor clave para que los diseñadores y los planificadores urbanos incluyan en sus propuestas diversas aproximaciones y estudios que permitan entender los comportamientos de las personas en el tema. Auscultar los mecanismos cognitivo-emocionales de los diferentes actores viales en el espacio público contribuye a la formulación de estrategias de diseño para configurar entornos seguros que reivindiquen la acción de caminar para los ciudadanos contemporáneos. El horizonte metodológico del estudio es cualitativo y participativo, apoyado en orientaciones del diseño para el cambio de comportamiento, el diseño emocional y el diseño participativo (DP), con el objetivo de delinear la ruta proyectual para responder a la problemática de accidentalidad de la ciudad. Los resultados evidencian conocimientos limitados de peatones y conductores relacionados con la normatividad vial y emociones disímiles entre estos actores viales. Las conclusiones del estudio permiten proyectar un problema de diseño enfocado en desarrollar estrategias de DP que sincronicen emociones entre conductores y peatones induciendo al aprendizaje experiencial sobre normativas viales en contexto.
