L’impasse de la guerre afghane : Une perspective du réalisme structurel
L’engagement des États-Unis en sol afghan découle des prétentions de ce pays à réaffirmer sa puissance hégémonique; cependant, les raisons du maintien des troupes de l’otan, plus de quinze ans après l’invasion sont beaucoup moins évidentes. Les États-Unis n’ont effectivement pas réussi à éliminer, ni même diminuer, les actions des insurgés et le panorama politique s’est complexifié. However, the reasons behind the engagement of nato troops in the country 15 years later are much less evident. In fact, it was not possible to eliminate or reduce the actions of insurgencies and the political situation became more complex. Therefore, the objective of this article is to analyze the Afghan occupation by nato in the light of the concepts proposed by structural realism in order to criticize the persistence of military strategy and its detrimental effects on United States’ national interests. To fulfill this objective, I analyze the military invasion of Afghanistan after the attacks of September 11, 2001 and I finally criticize the presence of foreign troops in this country based on the theoretical postulates of Mearsheimer, who argues on the irrationality of pursuing the armed intervention. The military occupation of Afghanistan by the United States arises from the needs to reassert its hegemonic power.
